RSPCA Animal Action Project for Children in Care

Who: Children aged 5 - 11.

What: A fun and interactive day where children will learn what animals, especially pets, need to be happy and healthy. This course aims to develop empathy towards animals and inform children how to stay safe. This programme will include games run by experienced RSPCA staff, a talk from an RSPCA Inspector and a tour around an animal centre to understand the work that the RSPCA do and what the consequences of animal cruelty are. This will educate children in a fun and engaging way, to help them experience all the ways we can help pets and ensure positive experiences with animals.

RBLI Skills Courses

Who: 19+, unemployed and receiving benefits

Prince’s Trust: Enterprise

What: The Prince’s Trust is offering a FREE Four-day ‘Explore Enterprise’ workshop, providing ongoing support whilst you plan your business. This includes one-to-one mentoring, and potential financial support available. This includes low interest loans and a ‘Will it Work’ grant. The programme will provide the opportunity to have an inspirational talk, the chance to set personal goals and learn about different legal structures that could affect your business. Learn about marketing and selling, HMRC, money management and finally how to write and understand business plans. The Prince’s Trust will provide ongoing support for your growing business

Prince’s Trust: App Design

Who: People aged 18-28 interested in Technology/App Design.

When: Taster day 24th March 2020, Main programme starts 30th March 2020 - 3rd April 2020.

What: The Prince’s Trust, and Made By Milk are running a FREE one-week programme where you can work with industry professionals from ISG to explore the process of App Design. This course will provide you with the opportunity to work in groups to develop ideas and design your own app, as well as learning how to turn your app into a fully functioning prototype. You will have the chance to pitch your app at the end of programme celebration event and will then receive 6 months mentoring support to help you into work, education or training.

Heath Farm School Apprenticeship: Property Maintenance Operative

Who: Young people living in the Ashford area, looking for an entry level apprenticeship in Property Maintenance.

What: An entry level apprenticeship in property maintenance. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young person looking to kick start their career. You will undertake general maintenance duties and risk assessments. Carry out various security checks as well as dealing with deliveries. You will report directly to either the schools head teacher or facilities manager if there is any issues when carrying out the maintenance of the school. You will receive professional support throughout the course of the apprenticeship and learn valuable life skills. You will also earn a wage.

Cost: Apprentices will earn a wage whilst training.

Heath Farm School Apprenticeship: Apprentice Administrator

Who: Young People living in the Ashford area, looking for an entry level apprenticeship in administration

What: This is a fantastic entry level opportunity for anyone who wishes to have a career in Administration and work towards a Business Administration qualification. You will plan, organise and provide efficient administrative support to the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team at the school. You will become a first point of contact for parents and visitors, developing your personal skills.  Help arrange and set up meetings and support in responding to enquiries through email, telephone and letters. You will receive professional training throughout the course of your apprenticeship and will develop valuable life skills. You will also earn a wage.

Children in Care non-residential Easter School

Who: Children in Care from Year 9 - Year 12 may apply. 

Where: Canterbury Christ Church University.

When: 22nd to 23rd of April 2020

What: Canterbury Christ Church University are delighted to offer young people the chance to attend their Children in Care non-residential Easter School, taking place at their Canterbury campus. The number of students applying to university, who have come from a care background, is very low and this event aims to offer students a chance to come and experience University life in full. This year’s Easter School has a Creative Writing and Performance Poetry theme. During the Easter School attendees will take part in fun and educational sessions including a creative poetry workshop, a Dynamic Dialogue and presentation skills session, and the research project exploring addiction to videogames. All costs of the summer school are met by CCCU, and transport to and from the event will be provided. For people who have an interest but no experience of University education, the Easter School aims to increase both social and academic confidence; heighten aspirations to attend University/Higher Education, contribute to social and emotional wellbeing, and improve attainment in a variety of subject areas. This experience will also make the attendees a more appealing candidate to University, should they wish to apply in the future.
