Young Cultural Ambassadors Summer School - Visual Arts

Who: Young people in years 10-13  

When: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday for 3 weeks. From Monday 2nd August to Friday 20th August. 10am to 3.30pm (with half an hour for lunch).

Exhibition of student work at Beach Creative will take place from Friday 27 August to Thursday 2 September.

Where: Beach Creative, Beach House, Beach Street, Herne Bay, CT6 5PT

What: This is a free course for those interested in a career in the arts supported by Canterbury City Council with University for the Creative Arts. The aim is to learn many different aspects of art and in doing so to develop a strong portfolio of work to support progression into Further or Higher Education.

The course is in line with Covid guidelines and each student will receive a pack of materials equipment for their own use to minimum risk of infection. You will be able to keep this equipment post-course.

Volunteer at an International Golf Tournament

Who: Anyone

When: Sunday 11th July 2021 - Sunday 18th July (8.00am starts)

Where: Various locations around the venue in Sandwich

What: An amazing volunteering opportunity at the 149th Open Golf Tournament at Royal St. Georges in Sandwich in July. These are off-course roles and will be based at the venue entrances and exits, and at train stations, car parks and other local areas. The key aim is to guide spectators along their journey, provide them with relevant information and promote the other activities happening in the area. You will receive full training and also have the option of gaining a nationally recognised level 2 qualification.

Who: Care Experienced young people and care leavers aged 16-18.

What:  Are you a care experienced young person or a care leaver and aged between 16 – 18? Would you like to create a short film with professional artists?

The Kent and Medway Collaborative Outreach Programme (KaMCOP), University for the Creative Arts (UCA) and Creative Futures are excited to launch Hear My Voice, a new virtual creative programme for care experienced young people/care leavers in Kent and Medway!

Join them for five sessions online, where you can explore various ways to tell a story or spotlight a topic that interests you. It’s your voice and they want to hear from you.

What:  This summer school is led by experienced industry professionals and Ravensbourne student ambassadors. You will work towards a project brief whilst having the opportunity to attend a wide range of master classes to boost your creative and digital skills.  

It will be a chance to enhance your portfolio, learn new skills, obtain constructive feedback and be inspired to pursue a creative subject.

What: Learn how to use digital platforms such as Youtube, Wordpress and Soundcloud and how to design your own website/ blog page. This will be a fun and rewarding week where you can also improve your teamwork and communication skills and confidence. After the programme you will receive three months support to help you progress.

Full Traineeships from NuYu Academy

Who: 19 - 24 year olds who are currently not in Education, Employment or Training and live in the Folkestone, Dover, Deal, Canterbury, Ashford and Hythe areas

When: Between now and August 2021

Where: Weekly online lessons via Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom OR face to face classroom sessions in Dover

What: Study Maths and English Courses alongside a Level 1 Qualification in Occupational Studies; take part in a work placement in an industry of your choice and learn more about CV writing, applying for a job and the interview process. You will be supported with a weekly catch up to check you are on track too.

Courses at the University of Greenwich

Courses at the University of Greenwich

The University of Greenwich have 5 webinars available to help students aged 16+ with independent learning skills to help with their current studies and in preparation for studying in Higher Education.

The webinars will be on Tuesdays, from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, through to May, and are available to all care leavers across the country – students do not need to be applying to the University of Greenwich to be able to attend these events.

Students can register for 1, or all of the events and both students and advisers are welcome to attend.   The webinars will be held on zoom and confidentiality and university safeguarding measures have been put in place, so all attendees’ cameras will be off.

Managing Stress – Tuesday 20 April 2021

Students will identify potential causes of stress (before/present/future), describe some of the effects of too much stress and learn how to use strategies and support networks to manage stress.

Thrive Not Strive – Tuesday 27 April 2021

Students will be able to understand the key characteristics and skills required for building resilience whilst studying.  The sessions will describe methods for overcoming challenges and developing personal tenacity.

Understanding Feedback – Tuesday 4 May 2021

A crucial session for students to be able to understand the definition of feedback and the importance of it. 

Independent Learning – Tuesday 11 May 2021

Students will be able to identify their learning style, the importance of effective note taking; tools which can be utilised and the benefits of good time management skills.

What: Want a chance to gain a qualification in Health and Safety plus a CSCS green labourer’s card? The “Be Yourself” Courses and Opportunities is a two day course for young people to take part in and gain skills and experience that is needed in a construction setting. The training sessions are delivered by an experienced instructor in an interactive and engaging way.
