The British Racing School Apprenticeship

Who: Care Leavers interested in an apprenticeship with British Horse Racing.  

When: Open day Thursday 20th February 2020 (New Market, Suffolk)

What: Level 2 Diploma Apprenticeship opportunity with The British Racing School. All training takes place at the state of the art facilities at Newmarket, Suffolk. Upon completion of the residential aspect of the course, trainees are guaranteed work placements with Racehorse Trainers located all over the UK. Opportunities include: Assistant Trainer, Head Lad, Jockey and Work Rider to name a few. It is expected that by the end of the 14 week course, trainees have their own equipment (Pricing at around £300-£450), however equipment may be available to borrow in that time. Kit needed includes: Riding Hat, Riding Boots, Body Protector. No prior qualifications required. Completion of residential aspect of course guarantees a job, excellent career progression and the opportunity to travel the world.

RSPCA Animal Action Project for Children in Care

Who: Children aged 5 - 11.

When: TBC

Where: TBC

What: A fun and interactive day where children will learn what animals, especially pets, need to be happy and healthy. This course aims to develop empathy towards animals and inform children how to stay safe. This programme will include games run by experienced RSPCA staff, a talk from an RSPCA Inspector and a tour around an animal centre to understand the work that the RSPCA do and what the consequences of animal cruelty are. This will educate children in a fun and engaging way, to help them experience all the ways we can help pets and ensure positive experiences with animals.

Prince’s Trust: M&S Work Experience.

Who: 16 - 25 Year olds looking for work. 

When: Taster day 19th February 2020. Main Programme: 24th February - 20th March 2020

Where: Maidstone, Hempstead Valley or Bluewater Stores. 

What: 4 weeks work experience, learning about customer service and the various job roles at M&S. On-the-job training in an M&S Store with a dedicated buddy and regular feedback and support. Travel, Lunch & Uniform provided on the programme. Access to 3-month employment opportunities with M&S.

Prince’s Trust: “Get Into NHS” Programme

Who: 16 - 30 year olds, not in education, employment or training. Living in Maidstone, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells or surrounding areas. 

When: Taster Day 3rd March 2020, Course starts 9th March 2020 - 29th March 2020

Where: Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells.

What: A 3 week course providing an overview of the NHS, a tour of Maidstone hospital, Customer Care, Safeguarding, Infection Prevention & Control and Employability Skills. Offering training and work experience opportunities as a Clinical Support Worker (CSW). A CSW’s responsibilities include assisting health care professionals in the delivery of patient care. It’s an ideal entry route to many careers in health, such as nursing, especially for people with commitment and enthusiasm rather than academic qualifications. You will gain essential skills and work experience needed for working within the healthcare industry. Boost confidence and gain support with your employability skills. Travel expenses PAID on the programme. Receive support to apply for entry level job roles and apprenticeships. Up to 6 months mentoring support to help you into work.

Who: 18 - 28 Year olds not in education, employment or training with a keen interest in makeup and beauty.

When: Taster day - 12th February 2020. Main Programme - 17th - 21st February 2020.

What: The opportunity to learn new skills or develop the ones you already have. Learn from a professional Makeup Artist in sessions that cover beauty, bridal and editorial makeup. Complete a team makeup challenge. Learn from a panel of beauty industry insiders with all brushes and products provided. Travel expenses paid.

What: The Prince’s Trust is offering a FREE Four-day ‘Explore Enterprise’ workshop, providing ongoing support whilst you plan your business. This includes one-to-one mentoring, and potential financial support available. This includes low interest loans and a ‘Will it Work’ grant. The programme will provide the opportunity to have an inspirational talk, the chance to set personal goals and learn about different legal structures that could affect your business. Learn about marketing and selling, HMRC, money management and finally how to write and understand business plans. The Prince’s Trust will provide ongoing support for your growing business

Prince’s Trust: App Design

Who: People aged 18-28 interested in Technology/App Design.

When: Taster day 24th March 2020, Main programme starts 30th March 2020 - 3rd April 2020.

What: The Prince’s Trust, and Made By Milk are running a FREE one-week programme where you can work with industry professionals from ISG to explore the process of App Design. This course will provide you with the opportunity to work in groups to develop ideas and design your own app, as well as learning how to turn your app into a fully functioning prototype. You will have the chance to pitch your app at the end of programme celebration event and will then receive 6 months mentoring support to help you into work, education or training.

Heath Farm School Apprenticeship: Property Maintenance Operative

Who: Young people living in the Ashford area, looking for an entry level apprenticeship in Property Maintenance.

What: An entry level apprenticeship in property maintenance. This is a fantastic opportunity for a young person looking to kick start their career. You will undertake general maintenance duties and risk assessments. Carry out various security checks as well as dealing with deliveries. You will report directly to either the schools head teacher or facilities manager if there is any issues when carrying out the maintenance of the school. You will receive professional support throughout the course of the apprenticeship and learn valuable life skills. You will also earn a wage.

Dover Technical College Pre-Access Course

Who: Learners aged 16+ who have a Level 1 or vocational Level 2 qualification and some GCSEs at grade D.

What: Dover Technical College is offering an intensive one-year course for students wanting to improve their academic skills, including English and Maths, to progress to a Level 3 Study Programme. One day per week will focus on GCSE maths and English so that all students have the opportunity and support to achieve these essential qualifications. Specialist tutors will deliver and interesting and inclusive curriculum that prepares students for the GCSE exams at the end of the year.

Children in Care non-residential Easter School

Who: Children in Care from Year 9 - Year 12 may apply. 

Where: Canterbury Christ Church University.

When: 22nd to 23rd of April 2019

What: Canterbury Christ Church University are delighted to offer young people the chance to attend their Children in Care non-residential Easter School, taking place at their Canterbury campus. The number of students applying to university, who have come from a care background, is very low and this event aims to offer students a chance to come and experience University life in full. This year’s Easter School has a Creative Writing and Performance Poetry theme. During the Easter School attendees will take part in fun and educational sessions including a creative poetry workshop, a Dynamic Dialogue and presentation skills session, and the research project exploring addiction to videogames. All costs of the summer school are met by CCCU, and transport to and from the event will be provided. For people who have an interest but no experience of University education, the Easter School aims to increase both social and academic confidence; heighten aspirations to attend University/Higher Education, contribute to social and emotional wellbeing, and improve attainment in a variety of subject areas. This experience will also make the attendees a more appealing candidate to University, should they wish to apply in the future.
